THE MERCHANT WRITES
The e-ville blog contains my thoughts and writings from almost ten years on running an online store, trade with China and everything related to it.

Ville Majanen
I am Ville Majanen, a 43-year-old entrepreneur. I lived in Asia for over 20 years and ran E-ville.com, the online store I founded, for 15 years from Hong Kong and China together with my 45 employees. My background is in international business. In my free time, I sail, play golf and hike.
A Christian foundation of values and culture, home and country, entrepreneurship and equal opportunities to succeed are important to me. I value free education, a safe living environment and well-functioning basic services, such as public healthcare.
Being a Finn living abroad is part of my relationship with Finland. At the same time, I have been an immigrant in Hong Kong, where I currently live. These experiences include getting to know the practices of a new society, operating in different cultures and maintaining ties with my home country.
In societal issues, my interests focus particularly on the economy, taxation and basic services. My entrepreneurial background also leads me to examine how regulation and bureaucracy affect the day-to-day work of businesses. I am interested in how public funds are used and how the effects of decisions are assessed.
In my current work, I develop AI projects and digital services. Through them, I also consider how technology can make practical work easier and reduce unnecessary administrative work.
I believe it is important that the figures, assumptions and effects underlying decisions can be checked. Facts, estimates and opinions should be distinguished from one another, and uncertainties in calculations should also be made visible.
I was born in Kerava in 1983. I went on a high-school exchange to the United States and worked summer jobs in Germany. I moved to Hong Kong in 2006 as part of my business administration studies.
